Thomas
Muller has revealed just how far Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola went in
trying to motivate his players against Juventus on Wednesday night.
The German side trailed 2-0 at
half-time, and 4-2 on aggregate, but managed to overcome the
oddsand
stun the Serie A champions by scoring four unanswered goals to reach the
quarter-final.
However, the sideline at
full-time was not a happy place, with the German international opening up
about the words that were exchanged between Guardiola and his players as he
looked to ensure their hard work wouldn't come to nothing.
A reporter from Sky asked Muller after
the game it was true that Guardiola had threatened to castrate the team, which
Franz Beckenbauer told the media had happened.
"Yes, something like that was
said," Muller laughed. "He didn't use the word castrate but he did
say that he would cut our balls off! In these moments, it is natural for
emotions to run high.
"I
think that if I were in his position and was the coach, I wouldn't have
done anything differently. We wanted the third goal and we always felt
that we had enough gas in the tank to achieve that."
Guardiola's words certainly had the
desired impact as substitutes Thiago and Kingsley Comanstruck
in extra-time to fire Bayern into the last eight.
