Nigeria's senate president to stand trial

The Nigeria’s Supreme Court has ruled that Senate President Bukola Saraki should face trial for alleged false declaration of assets is significant. He is the third highest political office holder in the country and will now have to appear at the Code of Conduct Tribunal - the agency regulating the conduct of public officials. This signals a new feature in the country's legal system, where individuals, no matter how highly placed, can be made to answer for their actions. Being a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress does not appear to work in Mr Saraki's favour. The Code of Conduct Bureau had levelled a 13-count criminal charge against him. However, in his response to the judgement of the appelate court,he denied the charges.
